Location – Stybarrow Fields, Australia

Client – TechnipFMC

Operator – Woodside

Decom Engineering was contracted by TechnipFMC to support Woodside’s decommissioning campaign at the Stybarrow field, offshore Western Australia. The scope involved cutting 76mm mooring chain links at a water depth of 850 meters—requiring rapid, clean cuts to support safe disconnection and recovery.

The C1-24 chop saw (unit 105) was crane deployed and powered subsea via ROV, with hotstabs supplied by Decom. The campaign demanded high cutting efficiency and robust tool performance over a short offshore duration.

Solution

Decom Engineering’s C1-24 saw delivered industry- leading cut times of just 8 minutes per mooring chain link, completing all 24 cuts with consistent performance and minimal blade changes.

The tool’s reliability and speed ensured the operation remained ahead of schedule, reducing vessel time and supporting TechnipFMC’s efficient delivery of decommissioning works for Woodside. The rapid, controlled cutting process proved particularly effective in handling heavy-duty mooring materials under deepwater constraints.
