Decom Engineering was engaged by Total Energies to provide cutting solutions for a subsea jumper connector recovery in the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa. The project involved cutting a 168.3mm OD Duplex flowline with a 14.3mm wall thickness, encased in insulation with an overall diameter of 608mm. The cutting operation took place at a water depth of 1050 meters, and the subsea environment required the use of an ROV with hotstabs for deployment. Each cut required an average of 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the durable C1-24 Chopsaw was utilized, delivering precise cuts with each blade handling a single cut due to the challenging material and conditions.

Decom Engineering provided a comprehensive equipment and service solution, specifically tailored to meet the demanding requirements of this offshore operation. The primary tool used was the C1-24 Chopsaw, chosen for its reliability and performance in deepwater environments. To enhance the efficiency and safety of the operation, an independent clamping system was used alongside a specially designed hotstab package, ensuring secure and accurate cuts at such significant depths.

In addition to the cutting tools, Decom Engineering also provided remote technical support throughout the project. This support ensured that the operations team could effectively manage and troubleshoot any challenges, leading to the successful completion of the jumper connector recovery. The collaboration between Decom Engineering and Total Energies on this project underscores the company’s capability in handling complex subsea cutting tasks in deepwater scenarios.
