Case Study: Cutting of Thick Wall 350mm OD CS Pipe
Location – North Sea
Client – Exceed / Deep Ocean
Decom Engineering partnered with Deep Ocean for a significant pipe cutting operation in the North Sea, specifically targeting the decommissioning of thick wall 350mm OD carbon steel (CS) pipes.
The project was executed in May 2023 and utilised the C1-24 Chop Saw, known for its robust capabilities in handling various wall thicknesses. The operation successfully completed 20 cuts with an average blade life of 12 cuts per blade, demonstrating the effectiveness of the C1-24 in challenging conditions.
Solution
The C1-24 Chop Saw was specifically chosen for its ability to cut thick wall pipes within the specified outer diameter (OD) limits. The project involved utilizing a crane equipped with a hydraulic power unit (HPU) reeler for precise positioning and cutting operations.
With its design tailored for handling various wall thicknesses, the C1-24 Chop Saw provided Deep Ocean with the confidence to tackle this project as expected, ensuring clean cuts and maintaining operational efficiency.
